Lady Eagles Open Fall with Record Performance at Dinosaur Fall Classic
September 23-24, 2022
Squaw Valley Golf Course – Glen Rose, Texas
The Argyle Lady Eagles open the new season in emphatic fashion, capturing the team title at the Dinosaur Fall Classic and rewriting another chapter of program history in the process.
With two returners from the defending state championship team and three players making their first varsity starts, Argyle wastes no time showing the standard remains high. The Lady Eagles post rounds of 301 and 310 for a 36-hole total of 611, win the tournament, and set a new school record for 36 holes.
The story begins on day one at Apache Links, where Argyle surges to the top of the leaderboard behind two breakthrough performances.
Junior Madison Wert leads the charge with a brilliant 3-under-par 69, finishing second individually and setting a new program record for the lowest 18-hole round. But before Wert finishes her round, sophomore Ryan Purczynski already makes history of her own. Purczynski fires a 1-under-par 71, breaking Katie Garner’s previous school record of even-par 72 and becoming the first player in Lady Eagles program history to shoot an under-par round. By the end of the day, Wert takes that mark one step lower, birdieing her final hole to post the new standard at 69.
That sequence gives the opening round a historic feel.
Argyle’s 301 puts the Lady Eagles in front after the first day, with Ana Corro adding a 79, Kate Rendon carding an 82, and Colbie Moses posting a 97 in her varsity debut. The combination of elite scoring at the top and valuable contributions throughout the lineup gives Argyle immediate control of the tournament.
On day two, the field moves to Comanche Lakes, and the Lady Eagles finish the job.
Wert and Purczynski again deliver under-par golf, each carding 71s to pace the lineup. Rendon adds another steady 82, Corro shoots 86, and Moses comes in at 98 as Argyle closes with a 310. The final total of 611 not only secures the team championship, but also establishes a new school record for 36 holes.
Wert finishes as tournament runner-up with rounds of 69 and 71, while Purczynski claims third with back-to-back 71s in one of the most impressive performances of the tournament. Rendon places eighth with rounds of 82 and 82, and Corro finishes ninth after her 79-86 performance.
For Argyle, the opening event of the fall delivers more than a win. It delivers a statement.
The Lady Eagles begin the season with a tournament title, a 36-hole school record, a new low-round standard, and the program’s first under-par round — all in the same weekend. For a team with championship expectations, it is exactly the kind of start that commands attention.
Argyle next hosts the Argyle Lady Eagle Invitational at Wildhorse Golf Course at Robson Ranch.
