The Lady Eagles competed in the Area Championships this Friday, winning the meet with 135 points to Aledo’s 134, making them your Area Champions!
The morning kicked off with the field events. Junior Dylan Wyrick came home with the gold in the Pole Vault, placing 1st with a height of 12-0, effectively earning her spot in the Region 1-5A Championships in two weeks. Sophomore Evangeline Edmondson also represented the Lady Eagles in the pole vault.
In the discus, sophomore Vanessa Banks placed 2nd overall with a throw of 132-08, punching her ticket to the Region 1-5A Championships, and scoring points for the Lady Eagles. Senior Ella Stanzel also qualified in the high jump, placing 3rd with a height of 5-3. Also scoring points for the Lady Eagles was sophomore Presli Prater, who jumped 5-0 for 6th.
Freshman Annaka Ross took 2nd place in the long jump with a new PR of 17-2.75, putting up 8 points for the Lady Eagles. Junior Emma King also threw 36-0.50 in shot put to take 4th. Both will be competing at the Region 1-5A Championships in two weeks.
The running events started off with a new school record! The 4X100m team, consisting of freshmen Adyson Padron, Annaka Ross, senior Blair Mosley, and sophomore Chelsea Nwaiwu placed 1st overall, winning in a new best time of 48.12, and earning their spot at the Region 1-5A Championships.
Competing in the 800m run was senior Sydney Lessley. She finished 8th overall, running a time of 2:24.90.
Advancing to regionals in the 100m hurdles will be sophomore Presli Prater and junior Berkley Burns. Prater placed 1st, running a new PR of 15.14, and Burns placed 3rd, finishing in 15.86.
Sophomore Chelsea Nwaiwu and freshman Adyson Padron also qualified individually for the Region 1-5A Championships. Nwaiwu ran a new school record of 12.04 to take home the gold, and Padron took 4th with a PR of 12.29.
The 4X200m relay took 3rd place overall, securing their spot in the Region 1-5A Championships. The team of freshman Adyson Padron, sophomore Deana Somers, and juniors Mallory Kuykendall and Eva Robinson finished in a time of 1:44.49.
Senior Blair Mosley took 1st place overall in the 400m run, and will compete at the Region 1-5A Championships in a few weeks. Mosley finished in a new PR and school record of 56.72.
Competing in the 300m hurdles was junior Kate Brooks. She finished the race in a time of 50.01 to take 8th place.
Scoring points in the 200m for the Lady Eagles were sophomore Chelsea Nwaiwu and junior Eva Robinson. Nwaiwu finished 3rd in a time of 25.12, and Robinson ran 25.38 for 4th. Both will be advancing to regionals in two weeks.
Representing the Lady Eagles in the 1600m was sophomore Madison Chapman. She finished 8th, running a time of 5:33.15.
The night concluded with the 4X400m relay. The team of freshman Annaka Ross, junior Eva Robinson, sophomore Deana Somers, and senior Blair Mosley ran a tough race to finish 2nd in 4:00.55, qualifying for regionals, and securing the points necessary to win the meet.
