5A DII No. 5 Argyle 70, 5A DI No. 10 Highland Park 37
Argyle's high-powered offense was on full display Friday as it racked up 10 touchdowns in a 70-37 home win over fellow state-ranked squad Highland Park.
The Eagles (3-1), ranked No. 5 in all of 5A Division II, took a 35-24 lead into halftime and were up 56-34 through three quarters before outscoring the Scots (1-3) by a 14-3 margin in the final period to seal the deal.
Argyle finished with 662 yards of total offense with more than 300 yards both passing and rushing in an all-around dominant showing offensively.
Hayes Hackney led the way for Argyle at 23 of 27 passing for 339 yards and five touchdowns. Texas Tech commit Julian Caldwell made 10 catches for 241 yards and four TDs to lead the way. Micah De Leon added five catches for 40 yards, and Oklahoma State commit Ake O'Neal had five catches for 35 yards and one TD.
Logan Rexroat paced the Argyle run game with 12 carries for 153 yards and two touchdowns. Max Pomeroy added 10 carries for 118 yards and two TDs to go with two catches for 13 yards, and Ryan Nelson had two carries for 64 yards and one score.
Argyle has won three consecutive games heading into its District 3-5A DII opener at home on Friday, Sept. 25, against Grapevine (2-2).
