Lady Eagles Take 9th at Region 1-5A Championships, Sending Two to State

The regional meet began with the prelims on Friday, with a number of Lady Eagles advancing to the finals.
On Saturday, the day started with the field events, where senior Ella Stanzel placed 6th overall in the high jump, clearing a height of 5-0. In the discus, sophomore Vanessa DeBanks threw 118-9 to place 9th.
Advancing in the pole vault was junior Dylan Wyrick, who placed 2nd overall in the pole vault, clearing a height of 12-0, and punching her ticket to the State Championships this week. Also competing was junior Emma King, who placed 6th in the shot put with a throw of 38-10, breaking the previous school record by over two feet.
On Saturday, the running finals began with the 4X100m relay, in which freshmen Adyson Padron, Ava Atkins, and juniors Mallory Kuykendall and Kaia Tritthardt placed 8th, running a time of 49.58.
Sophomore Presli Prater also placed 8th in the 100m hurdles, finishing in a time of 16.14. In the 4X200m relay, the Lady Eagles placed 4th overall, running 1:40.02, which is the second fastest time in school history. The team consisted of freshman Adyson Padron, sophomore Deana Somers, junior Eva Robinson, and sophomore Chelsea Nwaiwu.
In the open 400m, senior Blair Mosley broke her own school record, running 56.32 for 2nd, and earning a spot in the State Championship Meet.
The night concluded with the 4X400m relay, which set the school record in the prelims with a time of 3:55.43. The team of sophomore Chelsea Nwaiwu, and juniors Eva Robinson, Berkeley Burns, and Kaia Tritthardt placed 6th overall in the finals.
The Lady Eagles put up 28 points, earning 9th place in a tough field of over 32 teams. Junior Dylan Wyrick and senior Blair Mosley will be competing in the UIL State Track and Field Championships on Friday and Saturday, May 1st and 2nd.
