Lady Eagles Rally to Win Aledo Bearcat Brawl
February 24-25, 2023
Split Rail Links / Squaw Creek Golf Course – Aledo / Willow Park, Texas

The Argyle Lady Eagles put together one of their strongest early-season performances of the spring, rallying from behind to win the first annual Bearcat Brawl and proving once again that this lineup is built to respond.

Hosted by regional rival Aledo High School, the two-day event offers a unique challenge with play split between two different venues — Split Rail Links in Aledo on Friday and Squaw Creek Golf Course in Willow Park on Saturday. By the end of the weekend, Argyle turns that challenge into a championship.

The opening round at Split Rail Links demands precision and patience. With greens rolling at a blazing 13 on the Stimpmeter, the course gives the field everything it can handle. Argyle responds with a 343, led by senior Madison Wert’s 79. Junior Ryan Purczynski follows with an 85, while freshman Colbie Moses adds an 87. Junior Kate Rendon contributes a 92, and Ana Edwards rounds out the team score with a 97.

After the first round, Argyle trails leader Mansfield by eight shots.

Then the Lady Eagles make their move.

The second round at Squaw Creek provides more scoring opportunities, with greens rolling closer to tournament pace, and Argyle takes full advantage. Wert fires a 4-over 75 to match the low round of the day and claim individual medalist honors through a scorecard playoff. Purczynski follows with a 78 to finish fourth overall, while Moses delivers a personal-best 83 to earn a top-10 finish. Edwards also turns in a personal-best 84, the best finish of her high school career to that point for Argyle. Rendon adds an 87 as the Lady Eagles post a final-round 320 and surge past the field.

When the scores are totaled, Argyle stands on top.

The Lady Eagles finish at 663 to overtake Mansfield, which closes at 667. Aledo places third at 688, followed by Byron Nelson at 710 and Lubbock Cooper at 711. It is a statement win against a strong field and another reminder of what Argyle can do when the tournament tightens.

What makes the victory stand out is the way it happens.

Argyle does not lead wire-to-wire. The Lady Eagles absorb a difficult first-round test, stay within range, and then deliver the best team round of the tournament when the opportunity opens up. That is the kind of comeback strong teams make — patient, balanced, and relentless.

For Argyle, the Bearcat Brawl becomes more than just another tournament title. It becomes another sign that the Lady Eagles are growing into one of the most dangerous teams in the region, with proven scoring at the top, improvement throughout the lineup, and the ability to chase down a leaderboard under pressure.
