The Argyle Lady Eagles golf team turned in another impressive showing at the Dinosaur Classic, hosted at Squaw Valley Golf Course in Glen Rose. The tournament, originally scheduled for two days, was condensed into 36 holes on Friday due to the threat of storms forecasted across Central and North Texas.

The early start and continuous play created a grueling competition day, testing endurance and focus as players battled through heavy winds and long rounds. Despite the challenge, the Lady Eagles remained steady and composed.

In the first round, Argyle posted a team score of 337, paced by Alex Mara's +4 (76) and Colbie Moses' +5 (77). Lily Bayer contributed an 89, while Hailey Perkins shot 95, and Sloane McMellian finished with a 96. The team's consistency across the lineup helped Argyle stay near the top of the leaderboard heading into the afternoon.

With the adjusted format, players rolled straight into their second rounds, grabbing a quick Starbucks lunch at the turn before heading back out to complete as many holes as daylight would allow. After more than eight hours on the course, tournament officials decided to shorten the event to 27 holes, as players in the final groups would not have been able to finish before dark.

Despite the shortened format, the Lady Eagles made the most of their final nine holes. Colbie Moses surged in the closing stretch, firing a 3-under-par 33 on her back nine to move into 2nd place overall at +2 for the event. Her finish marked one of the day's best rounds and capped an impressive week of play.

Alex Mara continued her strong season, shooting 37 on her final nine to finish inside the top 10 at +5 overall. Sloane McMellian carded a 44, Lily Bayer followed with a 45, and Hailey Perkins rounded out the team scoring with a 49.

Argyle's combined effort produced a +64 total team score, securing 3rd place overall against a competitive field of programs across the state.
Head Coach Nathan Moses praised the team's perseverance and poise throughout the demanding one-day format. "It was a long day for everyone, but the girls showed great focus and handled the conditions well," Moses said. "Playing 27 holes straight takes mental toughness, and I'm proud of how they competed from start to finish."

The tournament also served as a valuable tune-up for the remainder of the fall schedule. "Events like this prepare us for the intensity and grind of postseason golf," Moses added. "We talk a lot about finding ways to compete, regardless of the circumstances — and this was a perfect example."

The Lady Eagles will now attend the State Preview Tournament in November at Legacy Hills Golf Club in Sun City, Georgetown. The event will give the team an early look at the course that will host the UIL State Championships in the spring, providing a key opportunity to build momentum heading into the second half of the season.
