Lady Eagles Finish Third at Regional Preview in Lubbock
February 16-17, 2024
LakeRidge Country Club – Lubbock, Texas
The Argyle Lady Eagles head to Lubbock for one of the most important regular-season tests on the schedule and come away with a strong third-place finish against many of the top 5A teams in Region I.
Hosted by Frenship at LakeRidge Country Club, the tournament carries added significance because the course is set to host the 2024 5A Region I Championship while Texas Tech’s Rawls Course undergoes construction. That makes the event more than just another stop on the spring calendar. It gives the Lady Eagles an early look at a postseason venue and a valuable benchmark against many of the teams they could see again later in the year.
Argyle answers with two competitive rounds and a 36-hole total of 676.
Junior Ryan Purczynski leads the charge in spectacular fashion, firing a personal-best 70 in the opening round to pace the entire field. Senior Kate Rendon follows with an 85, while sophomores Alex Mara and Colbie Moses add rounds of 88 and 89. Ana Edwards contributes a 92, and Ansleigh Mullins posts a 98 as the Lady Eagles open with a team score of 332 and put themselves in strong position heading into the final round.
Round two brings a different kind of challenge.
With a winter storm moving in from the west, the field tees off in conditions that remain manageable early but carry added pressure as the day unfolds. Purczynski once again sets the tone, shooting an 80 to capture individual medalist honors for the tournament. Mara, Moses, Edwards, and Mullins each card 88s in the final round, while Rendon adds a 90 as the Lady Eagles post a 344 and lock down third place overall.
For Argyle, the week delivers more than a place in the standings. It provides experience on a course that could matter again in the postseason, another strong showing against a regional-caliber field, and a signature individual performance from Purczynski at the top of the leaderboard.
That is exactly what preview events are meant to do. They test a team, reveal where it stands, and offer a clearer picture of what will be required when the stakes rise later in the spring.
Argyle next tees it up at the Bearcat Brawl, hosted by Aledo High School, with play scheduled at Split Rail Links and Squaw Creek Golf Course.
