Argyle girls golf team set to compete in 5A state tournament for second straight year

Argyle's girls golf team is set to compete in its second straight 5A state tournament starting Monday when it opens play at the event at Legacy Hills Golf Club in Georgetown.

The Lady Eagles have reached the state tournament in back-to-back seasons since moving up to Class 5A ahead of the 2022-23 school year. Before that, Argyle won back-to-back team state championships at the 4A level in 2021 and 2022.

Argyle will now get its shot at a third state title this year after finishing second at the Region I-5A tournament to earn a state slot with the top three teams from each region advancing to state.

The Lady Eagles finished with a total of 639 strokes, finishing behind Amarillo High's regional championship tally of 609 and ahead of Colleyville Heritage's total of 649.

Ryan Purczynski, a junior, led the way for Argyle as she finished at 11-over-par to take eighth individually. Senior golfer Kate Rendon also finished 10th as an individual, while sophomores Colbie Moses and Alex Mara finished tied for 13th and in sole possession of 17th, respectively.

Junior golfer Ana Edwards rounded out the team's finishers in a tie for 28th and had a hole-in-one during the tournament.

Now, the five will look to bring home the hardware at state.
