The Lady Eagles competed in the District 7/8-5A Area Meet on Friday. The competition was steep, but the Lady Eagles put up 44 points to place 7th. They also advanced four athletes to compete at the Region 1-5A Championships next Friday and Saturday.
The Lady Eagles began the morning by earning 30 points in the field events. Junior McKinley Carrier threw a new PR of 108-4 to place 7th in discus. Senior Shelby Reed took 1st place in high jump with a jump of 5-4, advancing to the Regional Championship. Sophomore Madeline Zindel also put points on the board, placing 6th with a jump of 5-2. Also punching their tickets to the Regional Championships were junior Peyton Berry and freshman Dylan Wyrick. Berry jumped 11-0 for 1st place, while Wyrick jumped 10-6 for 2nd.
The running events kicked off in the afternoon, starting with the 4X100m relay. In a competitive field, the girls placed 7th, running a time of 49.71. This team included seniors Kendall Baker and Shaye Feely, and freshman Mallory Kuykendall and Brooke Maupin. Junior Mara Reed competed in the girls 800m run, finishing 7th place with a time of 2:31.13. In the girls 100m hurdles, senior Shaye Feely ran 14.97 for 4th place, advancing to the Regional 1-5A Championships. In the 100m dash, senior Kendall Baker set a new PR to place 5th, with a time of 12.36. The girls 4X200m team included senior Kendall Baker, junior Emily Harbach, senior Laiken Zamzow, and freshman Brooke Maupin. They placed 6th, running 1:43.81. In the open 400m, sophomore Blair Mosley and senior Laiken Zamzow placed 5th and 6th, running 1:00.64 and 1:01.87 respectively. Freshman Kate Brooks and junior Zoey Tait competed in the 300m hurdles, running 49.48 and 51.97 to place 5th and 7th.
The Lady Eagles will compete in the Region 1-5A Championships in Lubbock, TX next week.
