Lady Eagles Finish Runner-Up at Amarillo Relays
October 6-7, 2023
Tascosa Country Club / Amarillo Country Club – Amarillo, Texas

The Argyle Lady Eagles head to the Texas Panhandle and turn in one of their strongest performances of the fall, finishing second at the Amarillo Relays against a quality field on two of West Texas’ premier courses.

Hosted by Amarillo ISD, the two-day event is played at Tascosa Country Club and Amarillo Country Club just days after West Texas A&M hosts its annual tournament on the same venues. That gives the weekend a high-level feel from the start, and the Lady Eagles respond with the kind of golf that keeps them in contention from the opening round through the final holes.

Round one at Tascosa Country Club sets the tone.

Junior Ryan Purczynski leads the way with an outstanding 72, giving Argyle an early presence near the top of the individual leaderboard. Sophomore Colbie Moses follows with a 78, while senior Kate Rendon adds an 81. Junior Ana Edwards contributes an 86, and sophomore Alex Mara posts an 88 to round out the team score. Junior Ansleigh Mullins also turns in a strong round, carding an 87 while competing as a medalist.

By the time the field heads to Amarillo Country Club for the final round, Argyle sits in third place behind host Amarillo and district rival Colleyville Heritage.

Then the Lady Eagles make their move.

Purczynski closes with a 77 to finish third individually and once again anchors the lineup. Edwards delivers one of the biggest moments of the tournament, firing a personal-best 79 and breaking 80 for the first time in her varsity career. Moses and Rendon each add 82s, while Mara shoots a 92 and Mullins posts a 90. The final-round team score of 320 lifts Argyle into second place overall and caps one of the team’s best weekends of the season.

The finish says plenty about where the Lady Eagles stand in October. Against a strong field and on two demanding golf courses, Argyle stays composed, gets low numbers from the top of the lineup, and produces the kind of closing round that strong teams need when the leaderboard tightens.

Next, the Lady Eagles return home to host 24 of North Texas’ top teams at the Argyle Lady Eagle Invitational at Wildhorse Golf Course at Robson Ranch on Oct. 20-21.
