The Lady Eagle Varsity and JV squads opened up the season by taking 2nd and 3rd respectively at the Birdville Early Bird Invitational on Saturday, August 12th.

The Varsity squad was led by Junior Mara Reed, placing 5th with a new XC PR of 12:35 on the 2 mile course. The next three to finish were freshmen Natalia Crnecki, Brooke Kilpatrick, and Aoife Journagan, placing 10th, 13th, and 21st respectively. Crnecki finished the course in 13:11, Kilpatrick in 13:25, and Aiofe in 13:46. Rounding out the team score was Senior Hope Davidson, making her cross country debut with a time of 13:56 to take 26th place. Also competing for the Varsity team were Senior Sophia Sanchez (31st), Sophomore Margaret Schmidt (34th), who also made her cross country debut this week, Sophomore Emily Dallas (42nd), and Junior Sophie Deneault (43rd). They finished with times of 14:01, 14:06, 14:37, and 14:38 respectively.

With the first race of the season complete, many athletes walked away with a new personal record this week. Next week we look forward to competing at the Byron Nelson Invitational on 8/19, and adding some new runners to the mix.
