Lady Eagles Capture 5A Region I Preview Title at The Rawls Course
March 10-11, 2023
The Rawls Course – Lubbock, Texas
The Argyle Lady Eagles head into Spring Break with another statement performance, winning the 5A Region I Preview at The Rawls Course in Lubbock and continuing a dominant spring run against some of the top teams in West Texas and Region I.
The trip to Texas Tech brings just about everything the South Plains can offer. Argyle gets warm, beautiful weather for the practice round, freezing temperatures to begin round one, and then classic West Texas conditions in the final round, with 20-30 mph winds and blowing dust turning The Rawls Course into a true test of patience, shot-making, and toughness.
Argyle handles all of it.
Bundled up in the cold to open the tournament, the Lady Eagles put together a first-round 329 to take the lead. Madison Wert and Ryan Purczynski each fire 77s to pace the lineup and put themselves inside the top 10 individually. Kate Rendon adds an 86, Colbie Moses contributes an 89, and Ana Edwards rounds out the scoring with a 90 as Argyle positions itself at the top of the board heading into the final day.
Round two demands even more.
With strong winds sweeping across the links-style layout at The Rawls Course, the Lady Eagles return with another championship-level response, posting a 330 to finish at 659 and secure the team title. Madison Wert delivers the defining round of the tournament, shooting a brilliant 2-under-par 70 to claim individual medalist honors. Ryan Purczynski follows with an 80, while Ana Edwards adds an 85. Rendon and Moses each card 95s as Argyle closes out the victory in the toughest conditions of the weekend.
That is what makes the performance stand out.
Winning at The Rawls is one thing. Winning there across two completely different days — one cold and calm, the other windy and dust-filled — says even more about the adaptability and resilience of the lineup. The Lady Eagles do not just play well in ideal conditions. They prove they can win when the course and the weather demand something tougher.
The victory gives Argyle its third straight tournament championship of the spring and continues to build momentum at exactly the right time. With district play approaching, the Lady Eagles leave Lubbock with another trophy, a medalist performance from Wert, and the confidence that comes from winning on one of the premier courses in Texas high school golf.
Next, Argyle heads to Champions Circle for the District Preview on March 30 before returning there April 4-5 for the District 7-5A Tournament.
COMPETE WITH JOY
