Lady Eagles Test Themselves at 5A State Preview
November 4-5, 2023
White Wing Golf Club at Sun City – Georgetown, Texas
The Argyle Lady Eagles step into one of the strongest fields in the state at the 5A State Preview and come away with a valuable benchmark against Texas’ top 20 Class 5A teams.
Competing at White Wing Golf Club in Georgetown, the Lady Eagles use the weekend to measure themselves against elite statewide competition and to get an early look at a championship-caliber venue. Argyle finishes seventh overall with rounds of 358 and 329, and the 29-shot improvement from day one to day two says as much about the team as the final placing itself.
The opening round turns into a grind.
A slow-moving weather system drops more than a quarter-inch of rain on the course, and White Wing plays long, heavy, and demanding throughout the day. The soaked conditions test everyone in the field, from players to coaches to spectators. Argyle battles through it behind Ryan Purczynski’s 80 and Madison Wert’s 81. Ana Corro adds a 97, while Kate Rendon and Colbie Moses card 100 and 104 as the Lady Eagles fight through one of the toughest scoring days of the fall.
Round two brings a completely different look.
With drier conditions and cooler temperatures, Argyle settles in and delivers one of its strongest rounds of the season. Purczynski and Wert each fire 75s to lead the charge, while Corro bounces back with an 86. Rendon and Moses both improve to 93 as the Lady Eagles post a 329 and surge to a seventh-place finish.
That second-day response is the story.
Argyle does not let a difficult first round define the tournament. Instead, the Lady Eagles answer with poise, lower scores, and the kind of adjustment strong teams make when they get a second look at a demanding course. Against one of the deepest 5A fields of the year, that kind of improvement matters.
For Argyle, the State Preview becomes more than a fall event. It becomes a measuring stick, a learning opportunity, and another sign that the Lady Eagles can compete with the best teams in their new classification.
Next, Argyle heads east to Texarkana for the Jay Brewer Memorial at Texarkana Country Club.
COMPETE WITH JOY
