It was a crisp morning for day one of the District 6-5A Championships.
The day began with the field events. In the high jump, the Lady Eagles took 2nd, 3rd, & 5th. Senior Ella Stanzel placed 2nd, clearing a height of 5-2. Also at 5-2 was sophomore Presli Prater, who placed 3rd. Junior Allie King was 5th overall with a jump of 5-0.
Junior Dylan Wyrick brought home the gold in the pole vault, setting a new PR of 12-3 for first place. Also competing was sophomore Evangeline Edmondson, who jumped 10-6 for 3rd.
In the triple jump, junior Berkley Burns and freshman McKenzie Rippen placed 7th & 8th. Burns jumped 32-00.75, while Rippen jumped 31-01.00.
The duo of sophomore Vanessa and freshman Dianna DeBanks competed for the Lady Eagles in discus. Vanessa placed 3rd with a throw of 125-06, and Dianna threw 87-05 for 8th.
The running events began with the 3200m run, in which sophomore Madison Chapman placed 5th overall, running a time of 12:09.13. Also competing was freshman Addisyn McNatt, who ran 13:30.15 for 15th.
Next was the 100m hurdles, in which sophomore Presli Prater, junior Berkley Burns, and senior Ella Stanzel took 1st, 2nd, & 5th. Prater finished in a time of 15.75, with Burns close behind at 16.03. Stanzel finished in 17.21. All will be advancing to the finals tomorrow.
In the 100m dash, sophomore Chelsea Nwaiwu came in 1st, finishing in a time of 12.32. She was followed closely by freshman Adyson Padron, who ran 12.58 for 2nd. Also competing was freshman Ava Atkins, who ran 12.93 for 8th. All will advance to the finals on Tuesday.
Taking 1st and 2nd in the 400m run were sophomore Chelsea Nwaiwu and senior Blair Mosley. Nwaiwu ran 58.08 and Mosley ran 58.72. Both earned a spot in the finals. Also competing was sophomore Kacheral Meador, who ran 1:04.59 for 12th.
Junior Kate Brooks took 3rd place in the 300m hurdles, earning a spot in the finals tomorrow. She ran a new PR of 47.98. Also competing were junior Berkley Burns and sophomore Presli Prater, who placed 9th and 12th overall, running 50.11 and 51.42 respectively.
Competing in the 200m run were sophomore Chelsea Nwaiwu, and juniors Eva Robinson and Mallory Kuyendall. Nwaiwu set a new school record of 25.00 to take 1st place. Robinson also set a new PR of 25.52 for 2nd. Kuykendall also placed 8th with a time of 27.62. All three will advance to the finals tomorrow.
