Lady Eagles Gain Valuable State-Tournament Preview at Plum Creek
March 22-23, 2019
Plum Creek Golf Course – Kyle, Texas
The Argyle Lady Eagles take an important step in their spring preparation at the 4A State Preview, competing at Plum Creek Golf Course against many of the top Class 4A teams in Texas.
Hosted by Smithson Valley High School, the event brings together a unique field that includes 6A teams using Plum Creek as a district preview along with leading 4A programs preparing for the UIL 4A State Tournament later in the spring. For Argyle, the weekend offers much more than another tournament. It provides a chance to learn the course, study its demands, and begin building a game plan for what could await in May.
The Lady Eagles open with a solid first round of 354.
Senior Molly Yarbrough leads the way with an 85, while Madelyn Diomede follows with an 87. Hannah Wood adds an 88, and freshman Katie Garner, competing on the varsity team for the first time in her career, contributes a 94. Kenzie Sullivan rounds out the scoring with a 106 as Argyle gets its first full look at the course in tournament conditions.
The second round gives the Lady Eagles another valuable day on a championship-caliber layout.
Wood leads Argyle with an 85, while Garner improves to an 88 in the final round. Yarbrough posts a 91, and Diomede adds a 94 as the Lady Eagles finish with a team score of 358. Sullivan also trims a shot off her opening round, carding a 105 on day two.
When the tournament ends, Argyle’s 36-hole total of 712 places the Lady Eagles fifth overall in a field featuring strong 6A and 4A competition.
For Argyle, the value of the event goes beyond the standings. Plum Creek, home to the Texas State golf program and the future site of the 4A State Tournament, makes every round meaningful. The Lady Eagles leave Kyle with added experience, a better feel for the course, and a clearer understanding of what it takes to score on one of the most important venues on their schedule.
Argyle next heads to Rockwood Golf Course in Fort Worth for its final event before the district tournament begins.
COMPETE WITH JOY
