September 2019
Fossil Creek Golf Club / The Golf Club at The Resort – Fort Worth, Texas
The Argyle Lady Eagles open the 2019-20 season with a strong start, finishing second at the Eaton Fall Classic after two rounds at Fossil Creek and The Golf Club at The Resort.
Playing Friday at Fossil Creek and Saturday at The Resort, the Lady Eagles post team scores of 351 and 352 for a 36-hole total of 703, good for a runner-up finish to begin the fall schedule.
Argyle takes advantage of favorable early conditions in the opening round before the Texas heat settles in later in the day. Sophomore Katie Garner leads the Lady Eagles with an 84, while senior Hannah Wood and junior Madelyn Diomede each add 85s to keep Argyle in a strong position. Sophomore Maddie Wilson makes her Lady Eagles debut with a 98, and Reese Underwood battles through a wrist injury to post a 105. Freshman Lauren Justice also gains valuable varsity experience in her first high school event, carding a 113.
The second round brings another solid team effort.
At The Golf Club at The Resort, Hannah Wood leads the way with a 77, one of the best rounds of the tournament for Argyle. Diomede follows with an 86, and Garner adds an 88 as the Lady Eagles continue to show balance throughout the lineup. Wilson posts a 100, while Justice improves with a 111 in her second high school round.
When the final scores are counted, Argyle’s two-day total of 703 secures second place and gives the Lady Eagles an encouraging start to the new season.
Wood finishes with rounds of 85 and 77, while Diomede posts 85 and 86. Garner opens with the team’s low first-round score of 84 before closing with an 88. Wilson adds scores of 98 and 100, and Justice gains two rounds of early-season experience with 113 and 111. Underwood contributes a 105 in the opening round before withdrawing on day two.
For Argyle, the opening weekend provides exactly what a season opener should provide: competitive reps, a strong team finish, and a foundation to build on as the fall moves forward.
The Lady Eagles next travel to Lake Park for the Fred Willis Memorial Scholarship Tournament.
