Lady Eagles Open Spring with Runner-Up Finish at Eaton Invitational
February 5-6, 2021
The Golf Club at Champions Circle – Fort Worth, Texas
The Argyle Lady Eagles open the spring season with a strong showing at the Eaton Invitational, placing two varsity teams in the field and turning in a runner-up finish at The Golf Club at Champions Circle.
Argyle’s first team leads the way, posting rounds of 335 and 322 for a 36-hole total of 657 to finish second overall. The second team also competes well, carding 391 and 381 for a 772 total and a fifth-place finish. Together, the results highlight both the depth of the program and the momentum the Lady Eagles carry into the spring.
A trio of top-10 individual finishes paces the top lineup.
Claire Jensen leads Argyle with steady rounds of 79 and 79 to finish tied for fourth at 158. Madison Wert follows closely behind, opening with the team’s low round of 78 before adding an 81 to place sixth at 159. Katie Garner also finishes inside the top 10, shooting 84 and 79 for a 163 and a tie for seventh place.
Argyle’s scoring depth proves important throughout the tournament. Madelyn Diomede responds with a strong second round, improving from 96 to 83 to finish at 179, while Maddie Wilson adds rounds of 94 and 95 for a 189 total.
The second team brings another solid layer of competition for the Lady Eagles.
Izzy Wolfe leads that group with rounds of 89 and 90 for a 179. Freshman Madi Hance cards a 95 and 97, while Lauren Justice shows one of the strongest improvements in the lineup, following a first-round 104 with a 91 on day two. Corin Sullivan posts back-to-back rounds of 103, and Avery Clayton rounds out the scoring with scores of 128 and 111.
For Argyle, the tournament provides exactly what an early spring event should provide: competitive reps, lineup depth, and a chance to measure progress at the start of the second half of the season. The first team leaves with a runner-up finish, the second team adds a top-five result, and the program shows the kind of balance that can matter later in the spring.
Argyle next travels to Kyle, just outside San Marcos, for the 4A State Preview at Plum Creek Golf Club. The field features many of the top-ranked teams in Texas, including Lampasas, Monahans, Fredericksburg, Salado, Melissa, Midlothian Heritage, and eight-time defending state champion Andrews.
