Lady Eagles Close Fall with Strong Finish at Jay Brewer Lady Tiger Classic
November 12-13, 2021
Texarkana Country Club – Texarkana, Texas
The Argyle Lady Eagles close out the fall season with a strong final-round push at the Jay Brewer Lady Tiger Classic, finishing fifth at Texarkana Country Club against a quality field on one of the state’s most respected venues.
Played in honor of the late Texas High golf coach Jay Brewer, the tournament brings together strong competition and a course that demands precision. Texarkana Country Club presents a complete test, with towering pines, rolling terrain, and large sloping greens that place a premium on distance control, patience, and smart course management.
For Argyle, the first round serves as an adjustment to a challenging layout.
In the team’s first trip around the course, the Lady Eagles battle the difficult greens and tricky false fronts while posting a 345. Claire Jensen leads the way with an 83, the low round of the day for Argyle. Katie Garner and Ryan Purczynski each card 87s, Madison Wert adds an 88, and Lauren Justice posts a 91 as the Lady Eagles finish the opening round in sixth place.
The second day tells a different story.
Argyle comes back with one of the best team rounds of the tournament, firing a 327 — the second-lowest score of the day — to climb into fifth place overall. Madison Wert sets the tone with a 77, while Jensen adds an 82 and Purczynski follows with an 83. Garner improves to an 85, and Justice trims four shots off her opening round with an 87 to help complete the charge up the leaderboard.
That kind of closing round says plenty about the group.
After learning the course in round one, the Lady Eagles respond with sharper play, lower scores, and the kind of collective improvement strong teams show over the course of a two-day event. Against a difficult golf course and a competitive field, Argyle finishes the fall with momentum and another reminder of what the lineup is capable of when it settles in.
The Jay Brewer Lady Tiger Classic serves as the final event of the fall season for the Lady Eagles. Argyle next turns its attention to the Collegiate Preview at Castle Hills, where eight teams compete in stroke play for seeding before moving into match play in January.
