The spring season opens in record-setting fashion for the Argyle Lady Eagles.

After weather and travel issues forced two earlier cancellations, Argyle finally returns to competition March 4-5 at the 4A Region I Preview at Shadow Hills Golf Course in Lubbock. The tournament brings together many of the top teams from across UIL 4A Region I, including programs from West Texas, Central Texas, the Panhandle, and North Texas, giving the Lady Eagles an early measuring stick against some of the strongest competition they see all season.

Argyle answers with a championship performance.

The Lady Eagles posted rounds of 299 and 318 for a 36-hole total of 617 to win the tournament and make an early statement in the spring. The opening-round 299 is especially significant, as it marks the first time in program history that Argyle breaks 300 in team scoring and sets a new school record.

Katie Garner leads the way with a remarkable performance, opening with an even-par 72 to set a new individual school record. She followed with a 78 in the final round to claim the individual tournament title. Garner’s steady play gives the Lady Eagles a strong anchor from the start and helps set the tone for a memorable weekend.

Freshman Ryan Purczynski delivers an outstanding varsity performance as well, opening with a 73 and finishing fourth overall after an 82 in the second round. Madison Wert and Claire Jensen each carded first-round 77s and second-round 79s to tie for fifth place, giving Argyle four players near the top of the final individual standings. Lauren Justice adds rounds of 80 and 83, while Maddie Wilson improves from an 89 on day one to an 86 on day two.

The first round grabs the attention, but the second round says just as much about the team.

West Texas winds arrive on day two, with gusts topping 20 miles per hour, dramatically changing the conditions. Argyle adjusts, competes through the tougher weather, and still produces a strong 318 to close out the tournament and secure the team title.

That combination of firepower and composure makes the weekend especially impressive. The Lady Eagles not only set records, but also proved they can handle difficult conditions and finish the job against a strong regional field.

Argyle leaves Lubbock with more than a trophy. The Lady Eagles leave with momentum, confidence, and the kind of early spring performance that points toward what the season can become.

Next up, Argyle travels to Central Texas to compete in the 4A State Preview at Legends Golf Course on Lake LBJ in Kingsland.
