The Argyle Lady Eagles delivered another outstanding postseason performance April 20-21 at the 4A Region I Tournament at Shadow Hills Golf Course in Lubbock, with the Black team earning a runner-up finish and a trip to the UIL 4A State Championship.
Competing against one of the toughest regional fields in Texas, Argyle’s Black team posted rounds of 302 and 307 for a 36-hole total of 609, good for second place overall. The Red team also turned in a strong showing, carding rounds of 351 and 345 to finish sixth.
Madison Wert led the charge for the Lady Eagles and captured the individual regional championship with rounds of 73 and 74 for a two-day total of 147. Claire Jensen also finished inside the top five, shooting 77 and 74 to place fifth overall at 151. Katie Garner added another top-10 finish for Argyle with rounds of 73 and 80, finishing seventh at 153.
Argyle’s Black team showed the depth that has made the Lady Eagles one of the top programs in the state. Freshman Ryan Purczynski posted a steady 79-79—158, while Lauren Justice rounded out the state-qualifying lineup with back-to-back rounds of 86 for a 172 total.
The Red team proved it could compete with some of the best teams in the region, finishing sixth in the deepest regional field in the state. Maddie Wilson led the Red squad with rounds of 83 and 83, while Ari Davies added an 89-88—177. Ana Edwards shot 92-92—184, and Ansleigh Mullins bounced back with one of the best second-round improvements of the tournament, following a 103 on Day 1 with an 83 on Day 2.
Sophomore Madi Hance, competing as a medalist, also turned in an excellent performance with rounds of 80 and 81 for a 161 total.
With the runner-up finish, the Argyle Black team earned the opportunity to compete at the UIL 4A State Championship on May 16-17, 2022, at Legends Golf Course at LBJ in Kingsland. Argyle advanced alongside Andrews and Seminole to represent Region I against the top teams from Regions II, III, and IV.
The regional tournament once again showed the depth, balance, and competitiveness of the Lady Eagles program. From a regional individual champion to two teams competing at a high level, Argyle left Lubbock with momentum and a state tournament berth.
