The postseason preview felt exactly like one.

At the Girls 5A Region I Preview at LakeRidge Country Club in Lubbock on Feb. 20-21, the Argyle Lady Eagles stepped into a field built to test every part of a lineup. Region opponents, difficult scoring conditions, and a two-day format combined to create the kind of weekend that reveals where a team stands heading toward championship season.

Argyle answered with a strong finish.

The Lady Eagles tied for third place at 734 over 36 holes, matching Burleson Centennial and finishing behind only Colleyville Heritage, which won the event at 653, and Amarillo, which placed second at 698. Argyle opened with a 369 and followed with a 365 in the final round, trimming four shots and holding position near the top of a field loaded with Region I competition.

That mattered at an event like this, where every score carried postseason value beyond the standings themselves.

Alex Mara led the way for Argyle with a 36-hole total of 168, good for fifth place individually. After opening with an 86, Mara responded with an 82 in the second round to finish inside the top five. Colbie Moses added a solid 182 on rounds of 90 and 92, while Sloane McMillian posted 91 and 94 for a 185. Lily Bayer improved from 102 to 99 across the two rounds, and Hailey Perkins made one of the strongest day-two moves in the lineup, cutting seven shots with a second-round 97 after opening at 104.

The overall finish reflected what coaches hope to see this time of year: steadiness, resilience, and improvement from round one to round two.

In a regional preview, there is nowhere to hide. Every team is measuring itself against familiar names, likely postseason pairings, and the demands of West Texas golf. Argyle handled that challenge well, delivering a podium result and showing enough depth to stay in the mix throughout the weekend.

Just as important, the Lady Eagles left Lubbock with a clearer picture of what championship golf will require. The top of the lineup competed well, the team score improved on day two, and several players found better numbers as the tournament progressed.

For Argyle, that made the weekend more than just a strong finish on paper. It made it a meaningful step forward.

With the Region I picture beginning to sharpen, the Lady Eagles proved they belong in the conversation.
