Day one of the District 6-5A Championships began with a number of field events and several running events. The Varsity Lady Eagles are currently sitting in 3rd place with 34 points.
In the high jump, junior Ella Stanzel jumped 5-0 to place 4th. Also competing were junior Teagan Tarrant, and senior Madeline Zindel, who placed 6th and 7th. Tarrant cleared a height of 5-0, while Zindel jumped 4-10.
In the pole vault, senior Peyton Berry and sophomore Dylan Wyrick took 1st and 3rd. Berry jumped 11-6, while Wyrick cleared 10-6. Together, they put 16 points on the board for the Lady Eagles.
Sophomore Berkley Burns put another point on the board with her 6th-place finish in the long jump. She jumped a new PR of 15-7.75. Also competing were senior Zoey Tait and freshman Kate Gailey, who placed 10th and 12th. They jumped 13-9.25 and 12-9 respectively.
Freshmen Kallie Vest, Sailor Farda, and Kate Gailey competed in the triple jump. Vest jumped a new PR of 32-7.50 to place 7th. Farda and Gailey took 11th and 12th, jumping 29-0 and 28-2.
In the Varsity girls discus, freshman Vanessa DeBanks placed 6th, throwing 94-0. In the shot put sophomore Emma King took 2nd place with a throw of 34-7, securing her spot at the Area meet next week.
The running events began with the 3200m run, where freshman Madison Chapman placed 5th, running a new PR of 11:59.68. Also competing were junior Emerson Payne and freshman Avery Cain. Payne ran a new PR of 13:12.48 for 11th, and Cain placed 15th with a time of 13:39.18.
In the 100m hurdles, freshman Presli Prater set a new personal record of 16.14, placing 2nd, and securing her spot in the finals. Also advancing was senior Zoey Tait, who placed 5th with a time of 17.10. Sophomore Kate Brooks also competed, placing 10th, with 17.98.
Advancing in the 100m were freshman Chelsea Nwaiwu and senior Estelle Davis. Nwaiwu ran a new PR of 12.64 for 4th, and Davis placed 7th with 12.91. Advancing to the finals in the 400m was junior Blair Mosley, who ran 1:00.83 for 4th place. Also competing was junior Alexa Garcia, who placed 10th with a time of 1:04.00.
Representing the Lady Eagles in the 300m hurdles will be sophomore Kate Brooks. She placed 4th with a new PR of 48.67. Also competing were freshman Presli Prater and senior Zoey Tait, who placed 10th & 11th, running times of 52.04 and 52.30 respectively.
Setting a new school record in the 200m was freshman Chelsea Nwaiwu. She ran a time of 25.55 to take 2nd place, securing her spot in the finals today. Sophomore Eva Robinson will be moving on to Day 2 as well. She ran a new PR of 26.30 for 6th place. Also competing was sophomore Kaia Tritthardt, who ran a new personal best of 26.37 for 9th.
