Lady Eagles Punch State Ticket at 4A Region I Tournament
April 22-23, 2019
Shadow Hills Golf Course – Lubbock, Texas
The Argyle Lady Eagles deliver one of the defining performances in program history at the 4A Region I Tournament, battling through one of the toughest postseason fields in Texas and earning a place in the UIL State Tournament.
Competing at Shadow Hills Golf Course in Lubbock, the Lady Eagles post rounds of 325 and 327 for a 36-hole total of 652, finish third overall, and secure a state tournament berth. In a region known for its depth, pressure, and championship-level competition, Argyle does not just survive. It proves it belongs on the biggest stage in Texas high school golf.
That is what makes the finish so significant.
Region I in 4A golf is never easy. Every spot has to be earned, every round is contested against proven programs, and there is little room for mistakes over two days. Advancing through that kind of field takes more than talent. It takes composure, depth, and the ability to produce under pressure. Argyle shows all of it.
The Lady Eagles build their run in the opening round behind a pair of standout performances from Hannah Wood and Molly Yarbrough. Wood fires a 75, while Yarbrough adds a 79, with both rounds standing as season-best performances at exactly the right time. Madelyn Diomede contributes an 84, freshman Katie Garner posts an 87, and Kenzie Sullivan adds a 93 as Argyle opens with a 325 and puts itself firmly in the hunt.
Then comes the finishing push.
On day two, Argyle answers the pressure with more big-time golf, and this time the underclassmen help carry the charge. Garner fires a 78, while Diomede follows with a 79, both personal-best rounds and both arriving on one of the most important days of the season. Yarbrough adds an 81, Sullivan shoots a 91, and Wood posts an 89 as the Lady Eagles close with a 327 and lock down third place.
When the final numbers are posted, Argyle stands among the teams advancing from one of the most competitive regional tournaments in the state.
The achievement marks the second time in school history that the girls golf program earns a trip to the UIL State Tournament, and it comes the hard way — through a true team performance on one of the sport’s biggest postseason stages. No one player carries the day alone. Argyle advances with balance, timely scoring, and the kind of collective resilience championship teams need.
The Lady Eagles’ second team also gains valuable postseason experience in Lubbock. Sarah Greiner leads Argyle II with rounds of 90 and 81, while Reese Underwood adds a strong 91-93 performance. Stella Pace posts 101 and 121, Izzy Wolfe shoots 105 and 106, and Elly Neece rounds out the lineup with 108 and 107.
But the week belongs to the state qualifiers.
Argyle walks into Region I knowing the challenge. The Lady Eagles walk out as a state tournament team.
Next, Argyle heads to the UIL State Tournament at Plum Creek Golf Club in Kyle, where the Lady Eagles carry the momentum of a breakthrough regional performance onto the biggest stage in Texas high school golf.
COMPETE WITH JOY
