Lady Eagles Finish Fourth at 4A State Preview
February 14-15, 2020
Plum Creek Golf Club – Kyle, Texas
The Argyle Lady Eagles open the spring portion of the schedule by taking on some of the top Class 4A competition in Texas at the 4A State Preview at Plum Creek Golf Club.
Hosted by Monahans High School, the tournament brings together many of the state’s premier 4A programs, including Andrews, Lampasas, Melissa, Canyon, and a strong collection of individual qualifiers. For Argyle, it serves as an early measuring stick against the kind of field that helps shape the postseason conversation.
The Lady Eagles hold their own.
Argyle posts rounds of 349 and 356 for a 36-hole total of 705 to finish fourth overall, a strong result against one of the deepest fields of the spring. The tournament begins with a two-hour weather delay as below-freezing temperatures and frost push back the opening round, adding another layer of difficulty to an already demanding weekend.
Hannah Wood leads the way for Argyle from start to finish.
The senior opens with an 82 in the first round and follows with a 79 on day two to finish with a 161 total, good for third place individually. Her steady play gives the Lady Eagles a strong presence near the top of the leaderboard throughout the event and provides the kind of veteran scoring every team needs in a field this strong.
Katie Garner adds another solid tournament with rounds of 86 and 89, while Madelyn Diomede improves nicely in the second round, bouncing back from a 90 to shoot an 82. Maddie Wilson opens with a 90, and Lauren Justice adds a 96 in round one to round out the scoring. Wilson and Justice return in the final round with scores of 106 and 108 as the Lady Eagles complete a full two-day test against the state’s top competition.
More than anything, the weekend gives Argyle valuable perspective.
After dealing with weeks of cold, wet weather back home, the Lady Eagles step into a tournament loaded with elite teams and leave with a top-four finish and one of the top individual performances in the field. Events like this are not simply about trophies. They are about learning where a team stands, what holds up under pressure, and what needs to sharpen before district and regional play arrive.
Argyle next heads west to Lubbock for the Region I Preview at Shadow Hills on Feb. 28-29.
