Lady Eagles Set School Record at Centennial Invitational
February 26-27, 2021
Apache Links at Squaw Valley – Glen Rose, Texas
The Argyle Lady Eagles respond to a difficult start to the spring with a record-setting performance at the Centennial Invitational, finishing third overall at Apache Links at Squaw Valley in Glen Rose.
After a week of historic winter weather across Texas wipes out the opportunity to compete at the 4A State Preview, Argyle returns to action and immediately delivers one of the strongest tournaments in program history. The Lady Eagles post rounds of 318 and 325 for a 36-hole total of 643, setting a new school record for 36 holes and continuing the program’s rise against strong competition.
The first round sets the tone.
Sophomore Madison Wert leads the Lady Eagles with a 75, while Claire Jensen follows closely with a 76. Katie Garner adds an 81, Madelyn Diomede shoots an 86, and Lauren Justice rounds out the team score with a 90 as Argyle posts a 318, tying the school’s 18-hole record. Izzy Wolfe also competes for the Lady Eagles and records a 98 in the opening round.
The second round brings another test.
Dense fog delays the start by 30 minutes and creates difficult conditions once play begins, with spectators even stepping into the role of forecaddies to help spot golf balls. Argyle adjusts and competes through it. Wert once again leads the team with a 77, while Garner shoots an 80 and Jensen adds an 83. Diomede contributes an 85, and Justice posts a 91 as the Lady Eagles finish with a 325.
When the final scores are counted, Argyle’s 643 breaks the previous 36-hole school record of 652 set in 2019 at Shadow Hills.
The Lady Eagles finish third overall behind Mansfield and Aledo, but the bigger story is the level of golf Argyle produces in its first event back after the winter storm. Tying the 18-hole school record in round one and then setting a new 36-hole record over two days gives the tournament the feel of a breakthrough moment.
For Argyle, the weekend provides more than a podium finish. It offers momentum, confidence, and another sign that the Lady Eagles are building toward something bigger as the spring season unfolds.
Argyle next travels to Lubbock for the 4A Region I Preview at Shadow Hills Golf Course.
