Lady Eagles Finish Runner-Up at 4A Region I Preview
March 5-6, 2021
Shadow Hills Golf Course – Lubbock, Texas

The Argyle Lady Eagles head west and deliver a strong early-season statement at the 4A Region I Preview, finishing second overall at Shadow Hills against one of the toughest fields they will see all spring.

One week after battling dense fog in Glen Rose, the Lady Eagles face an entirely different test in West Texas. Strong 30-mile-per-hour winds and blowing dust make scoring difficult in the opening round, turning the tournament into a demanding preview of the kind of conditions postseason golf can bring.

Argyle handles the challenge well enough to keep itself in contention.

Claire Jensen leads the Lady Eagles on day one with an 81, while Katie Garner adds an 86. Madison Wert shoots an 87, Madelyn Diomede cards a 90, and Maddie Wilson posts a 91 as Argyle records a 344 and sits in third place after the opening round, trailing only Andrews and Lampasas. Lauren Justice also turns in a steady performance as a medalist, shooting an 84.

The second round changes everything.

With sunshine, calmer conditions, and a chance to attack the course more aggressively, the Lady Eagles respond with one of the best rounds in program history. Argyle fires a 309, setting a new 18-hole school record and surging to a runner-up finish with a 36-hole total of 653.

Several standout performances fuel the final round. Katie Garner delivers one of the best rounds of the tournament with a 1-over-par 73, a personal best. Madelyn Diomede follows with a 76, also a personal best, while Maddie Wilson adds another personal-best round with an 82. Jensen remains steady with a 79, and Wert contributes an 81 as the Lady Eagles set a record-setting team total.

The turnaround from day one to day two shows exactly what strong teams are capable of doing. After battling some of the harshest conditions of the season in the opening round, Argyle returns the next day with composure, confidence, and some of its best golf of the spring.

Just as importantly, the tournament gives the Lady Eagles a meaningful postseason measuring stick. Against elite Region I competition, Argyle not only proves it can contend, but also shows the type of depth and improvement that can matter later in the year.

Next, the Lady Eagles turn their attention to district season with previews scheduled for March 15 and March 22 before the District 7-4A Tournament begins March 29 at Robson Ranch and concludes April 5 at Runaway Bay.
