Lady Eagles Earn Return Trip to State with Runner-Up Finish at Region I Tournament
April 19-20, 2021
Shadow Hills Golf Course – Lubbock, Texas
The Argyle Lady Eagles deliver when the season demands it most, finishing runner-up at the 4A Region I Golf Tournament and earning a return trip to the UIL State Tournament.
Competing at Shadow Hills Golf Course in Lubbock, Argyle posts rounds of 325 and 319 for a 36-hole total of 644, good for second place overall. The finish secures the Lady Eagles’ second consecutive state tournament appearance and reinforces the program’s place among the top teams in Region I.
Argyle opens the tournament in solid position against a strong regional field.
Paired with Andrews, Lampasas, and Snyder in round one, the Lady Eagles battle through mild conditions and put themselves firmly in contention. Senior Madelyn Diomede leads the way with a 79, while Katie Garner adds an 81, Madison Wert shoots an 82, and Claire Jensen cards an 83. Lauren Justice posts an 89 to round out the team score as Argyle closes the opening round in third place.
Izzy Wolfe and Madi Hance also compete as medalists and add strong individual rounds of 85 and 87, giving the Lady Eagles more quality play on the regional stage.
The second day turns into a true postseason test.
Near-freezing temperatures, 25-mile-per-hour winds, and wind chills in the low 20s force a two-hour delay before play begins. When the Lady Eagles finally take the course, the conditions demand patience, toughness, and disciplined shot-making. Argyle responds with its best round of the tournament.
The Lady Eagles fire a 319 in the harsh weather to move into second place and secure their state berth. Garner leads the charge with a 77, while Diomede delivers another steady 79. Wert matches her opening-round 82, and Jensen improves with an 81. Justice cuts six shots from her first round to post an 83, while Hance adds an 85 and Wolfe shoots a 94 as Argyle closes out a high-level performance under pressure.
That final-round response says everything about the group.
With a trip to state on the line and the conditions growing more severe, the Lady Eagles do not back down. They produce one of their best rounds of the season in the tournament’s toughest weather and turn a strong regional performance into another championship-stage opportunity.
Argyle now advances to the UIL State Tournament in Kyle on May 10-11 at Plum Creek Golf Course, where the Lady Eagles carry postseason momentum onto the biggest stage in Texas high school golf.
