Lady Eagles Host Strong Field at Inaugural Argyle Invitational
October 15-16, 2021
Wildhorse Golf Club at Robson Ranch – Argyle, Texas

The Argyle Lady Eagles welcome one of the strongest fields of the fall to Wildhorse Golf Club at Robson Ranch for the inaugural Argyle Invitational, giving the program an early opportunity to test itself against top 5A and 6A competition on its home course.

With 24 teams from across the state in the field, the tournament brings a championship-level atmosphere to Argyle. The Lady Eagles respond with two solid rounds, posting scores of 333 and 329 for a 36-hole total of 662 to finish seventh overall.

The opening round unfolds in difficult conditions as the first true cold front of the fall moves through North Texas, bringing blustery wind and a much tougher scoring environment. Argyle holds its ground behind Madison Wert’s 82, while Ryan Purczynski and Lauren Justice each card 83s. Maddie Wilson adds an 85, and Claire Jensen posts an 89 as the Lady Eagles close day one in sixth place.

The field itself adds even more weight to the performance. Argyle opens the tournament paired with Hebron, the reigning 6A state champion, along with Keller and Granbury, whose lineup includes the defending 5A individual state champion. On a day when the conditions are anything but easy, the Lady Eagles stay composed and keep themselves in the mix.

Round two brings a different look.

Under clear skies and temperatures in the 50s for the 8 a.m. shotgun start, Argyle returns to the course and improves its team score with a 329. Wert leads the way again with a 77, while Jensen follows with a strong 79. Freshman Ryan Purczynski posts an 85, and Justice and Wilson each add rounds of 88 to round out the scoring.

The final result gives Argyle a seventh-place finish in a tournament loaded with high-level programs, but the bigger takeaway is the way the Lady Eagles compete. Against a deep field and under changing conditions, Argyle shows balance, resilience, and the ability to improve from one day to the next.

Hosting an event of this caliber also marks an important step for the program. The inaugural Argyle Invitational not only brings elite competition to Robson Ranch, but also gives the Lady Eagles a chance to measure themselves against some of the best teams in Texas on their home course.

Argyle next joins the Eagles boys team at the Southlake Dragon Four-Ball Tournament at Tangle Ridge, where Ryder Cup and Solheim Cup-style pairings feature one male golfer and one female golfer, with the low score from each pair counting toward the team total.
