Lady Eagles Capture Title at 4A State Preview
March 11-12, 2022
The Legends Golf Course – Kingsland, Texas

The Argyle Lady Eagles make another statement in the spring, capturing the team championship at the 4A State Preview at The Legends Golf Course in Kingsland.

With teams from across Texas gathering at Lake LBJ for an early look at the new home of the UIL 4A State Championship, the tournament offers much more than a trophy. It gives contenders the chance to measure themselves on a course that could define the season later in the spring, and Argyle makes the most of the opportunity.

The weekend begins in harsh Hill Country conditions. Near-freezing temperatures, precipitation, and gusting winds force the opening round to be canceled before play can be completed, turning the event into a one-round shootout. That only raises the pressure when play resumes Saturday, with every shot carrying added significance.

When the weather finally gives way, the Lady Eagles deliver.

Argyle posts a team score of 318 to win the tournament, placing four players inside the top 10 and showing the kind of depth that continues to separate the program from the field. Madison Wert leads the charge with a brilliant 1-under-par 71, earning individual medalist honors and setting a new school record on a par-72 course. Just one week after Katie Garner establishes the program standard with an even-par 72, Wert lowers it again and gives Argyle another landmark performance.

Garner and fellow senior Claire Jensen each shoot 82 to tie for sixth, while freshman Ryan Purczynski cards an 83 to finish tied for ninth. Lauren Justice rounds out the scoring with an 87 as the Lady Eagles secure another team title.

The result says plenty about Argyle’s growing momentum.

On a weekend shaped by difficult weather, shifting conditions, and the pressure of a championship-caliber field, the Lady Eagles stay composed and produce. Wert’s round grabs the headline, but the team result underscores the bigger story. Argyle brings balance, depth, and the ability to respond when the conditions are far from ideal.

Just as importantly, the Lady Eagles leave Kingsland with a win on the very course that hosts the state tournament later in the year. For a team with postseason ambitions, that matters.

Argyle next turns its attention to the 7-4A District Preview at The RB Golf Club in Runaway Bay before district play begins the following week. The district tournament opens March 28 at Wildhorse Golf Course at Robson Ranch and concludes April 4 back at RB Golf Club.
