Julian Caldwell, Argyle

What he did: Caldwell had 10 receptions for 263 yards and four touchdowns in Argyle’s 35-7 win over Midlothian Heritage on Friday at the Midlothian ISD Multi-Purpose Stadium. Caldwell also had 37 yards in kick returns. He helped Argyle – ranked No. 8 in The Dallas Morning News’ Class 5A area poll and the Associated Press’ 5A Division II state poll – improve to 1-1 while Heritage, ranked No. 19 in The News’ 5A area poll, fell to 0-2.

The stats: Caldwell’s touchdown receptions from Maguire Gasperson went for 62, 59, 45 and 35 yards. The 62-yarder was on the first play from scrimmage. Caldwell had four receptions for 138 yards and two touchdowns as Argyle built a 14-0 halftime lead.

Who is he? A 6-foot-1, 185-pound junior receiver. Caldwell has 13 receptions for 307 yards and four touchdowns this season. Caldwell had 21 receptions for 581 yards and seven touchdowns with three 100-yard playoff games while helping Argyle compile a 13-2 record and a run to the 5A-II state semifinals in 2024. Texas, Oregon, Southern California, SMU and Texas Tech are among 40 colleges that have made scholarships offers to Caldwell. He also competes in track and field in the 100, 200, high jump, long jump and relays.

He said it: “I liked all the routes I ran on Friday whether it was the go, post or screens. … During the offseason I’ve worked on my speed, power and my overall IQ of the game.”

Coach said it: “All of Julian’s touchdowns were similar. He got separation, but he ran really good routes, too. … Julian is better this year because he’s a tireless worker. It’s the work he had done in 7-on-7, spring practices, the whole deal. He’s very dedicated and committed,” – Argyle coach Todd Rodgers.

Did you know? Caldwell’s first competitive sport was soccer, which he started when he was eight years old. He credits soccer for helping with his footwork to this day. He start playing competitive football in the fifth grade, playing running back and receiver for Leo Adams Middle School in Haslet. ... Caldwell’s favorite course in school is math, especially algebra. He is currently taking advanced-placement calculus. … After his football playing days conclude, Caldwell wants to own a business, possibly involving clothing ... His favorite meal is New York strip streak (medium) with jasmine rice and water. Caldwell’s favorite athlete is the late Kobe Bryant, a Basketball Hall of Fame guard and five-time NBA champion with the Los Angeles Lakers. Caldwell said he admired Bryant’s mindset and the way he went about his work for basketball.
